A personal walk with God and stuff learned on the way

God is real

As Christians we often hear challenges to how we can prove that God exists.

When someone becomes a Christian they see and understand things that they didn’t before – as though the light has been switched on in their lives – and although there is much to say about how we know that God is real, even though someone who doesn’t believe wouldn’t be able to understand it, there was one that I heard early on in my Christian walk which has stayed with me.

Becoming a Christian is far more than the process of accepting a set of beliefs.  It changes everything about you and makes you into a new person. Anyone who has been a believer for any length of time has seen this happen not only to themselves, but to many many people after them who have had their own stories to tell.

When I was a much younger Christian I heard this expressed by a woman at the church I was attending and I have never forgotten it

When we talk to other Christians and share notes we find that we’re all following the same God.

In other words, we discover that the same thing that has happened to us, the life-changing experiences we have had, are exactly the same as has happened to other Christians.  It is just their own personal circumstances that are different.

It is sad to say that until someone gives their life to Christ they have no way of knowing it. You only understand it after your conversion – as though the light has been switched on.

If anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation. The old has gone, the new has come.   2 Corinthians 5:17

God’s theme: Restoration

Anyone who considers themselves a student of the Bible will know that there is one theme that runs through the entire book and that is restoration. God is all about restoration – restoring His relationship with us through the death of Jesus; Restoring lives from brokenness to health and wholeness; restoring relationships amongst believers.

Surely the hand of the Lord is not too short to save

Is 59: 1

There is nothing and no-one he can’t fix. There is no pit so deep that he cannot reach in and bring you out. There is no situation that he can’t turn around.

We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Rom 8:28

This is a very familiar scripture and is one which demonstrates His divine nature. Many things happen that are designed by Satan to destroy us, but God is able to turn them around if we let him.  He works things for good because that is his nature. His goodness and His all supreme power and holiness is greater than anything that can and has ever happened to us.

He works things for good because He is good.
