Everyone wants a sense of direction and purpose in their lives; a sense that their lives are going somewhere and they are not vaguely drifting through life. Most people rely on their own knowledge, intelligence and abilities to find their way and achieve their goals in the hope that in the long run they will be able to have the life they are looking for.
However, for the Christian this is not the way to do things. We do not belong to ourselves. Our lives are not our own and God insists on being in the driver’s seat in everything that we do. But even when we want to find the right course for our lives, how can we sure we’re making the right choice?
Today I read a great set of verses from Ps 25 which really shows how to co-operate with God and find out what HE wants.
He leads the humble in what is right, and the humble He teaches His way.
Who is the man who reverently fears and worships the Lord? Him shall He teach in the way that he should choose.
The secret of the Lord have they who fear, revere and worship Him, and He will show them His covenant and reveal to them its deep, inner meaning.
(Taken from Ps 25: 9-14 – Amplified Bible)
This means spending time with God: seeking Him with an attitude of humility and reverence. God wants us to involve Him in every area of our lives and when we fail to have time with Him him regularly, we lose out because we are then trying to run our own lives and God never meant for us to be able to do that successfully. He helps us if we regularly and persistently pursue him, admitting that we are helpless without Him, as we can see from this very familiar verse in Hebrews below.
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Hebrews 11:6)
Any form of pride or self-sufficiency won’t open the door for God to help us – and anyone who has tried to do it on their own will have learned that it is destined to fail! His ways are always right and left to our own devices we’re bound to drift off course. Humility is the key to finding God and the right path for us.
